Myself and Sandy Suffield were commissioned by 100% Design and Form Design to create a series of images using “creative balance” as a theme , based on our original stack series ( shown at the bottom of this piece ). We had great fun scouring through websites and catalogues, sourcing beautiful contemporary furniture that we felt would work in the same characterful, way as our smaller stack series. One of our principles when building this was to not rely too much on retouching and that the structure could actually support itself ( obviously with a little help ! )

Behind the scenes

Jemma our lovely assistant using her paper cutting skills to make perfect wall paper covered boxes for our shoot, and Joe our art director, and Tom ( one of our set-builders ) lending a helping hand !

Luke ann de Wiel our setbuilder extraordinaire, rigging man and Pantone matching perfectionist beginning the first stages of construction with Jemma. Tom working on propping the “see saw” image.

Below are our initial workings

This shoot was an extension of the Stack series from my collaborative work with Sandy Suffield. The idea was developed into a campaign for the lifestyle store The Hambledon.

This was a beautiful idea for Barclays Bank, art directed by Vix Jagger and Ric Hooley and produced by Aine Donovan at BBH.

Tim Weare made our slinky model, scaled up in size.

The giant coins were amazingly detailed. Here is a shot of the modelmaking in progress.
